The Center for Development and Learning
The Behavioral, Academic and Neurodevelopmental Survey (BANDS) is a descriptive tool for gathering data on academic and neurodevelopmental functioning from parents, teachers and students. The primary goal of the BANDS is to collect descriptive information that can be used in educational and clinical settings to form a profile of student strengths and challenges.
The BANDS collects information in the following areas:
Academic skills – reading, written language, mathematics, and motivation
Attention
Memory
Oral receptive and expressive language
Graphomotor (handwriting) skills
Higher order thinking
Spatial and sequential organization
Social, emotional and behavioral functioning
There are three versions of the BANDS – Parent, Teacher and Student – for each of two broad levels: Grades 1–3 and Grades 4–12. Once parents, teachers and the student have completed their respective surveys, responses are analyzed for common patterns among their responses.
Response to Intervention Tool
The BANDS is a useful tool for gathering information to guide and inform Response to Intervention (RtI) teams. Specific intervention strategies can then be identified that capitalize on the student's strengths, manage his challenges and remediate his weaknesses. The information may also be used to inform testing that may be conducted to determine the student's strengths and weaknesses in behavioral, academic and neurodevelopmental skills.
To Order
Each version of the BANDS is available in packs of 25. Sample sets consist of one student, one parent and one teacher version and are available for both grade levels.
