What we do

CDL's services bring advances from the fields of medicine, psychology, and education into the classroom and home to assist children, their families, teachers, schools, universities and the community by:

  • Delivering comprehensive, evidence-based professional learning for teachers, principals, parents and other professionals who serve children.

  • Providing direct services for children and their families through educational evaluations, consultations, and counseling.

  • Mobilizing public engagement through summits, forums, newsletters, and an information-rich website.

"CDL is one of the few organizations worldwide working to connect knowledge from the medical, psychological, educational, and judicial fields to multiply the benefits to children."

— Michael Fullan, Dean Emeritus, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto

During the 2009-2010 school year, CDL provided 2,218 educators with professional learning consisting of coaching, modeling, classroom observations with constructive feedback, study group facilitation and customized sessions. In May 2011, CDL held its sixth annual Plain Talk About Reading Institute. Over 740 educators came together to learn the latest reading research and evidence-based strategies. Approximately 49% of those attending were from Louisiana, with the remainder representing 39 states, D.C., Canada, and
St. Croix.
Last year CDL's psychologists conducted 148 individual educational evaluations for struggling students.
